Worth the Drive

To get the results that you want in fitness, all you have to do is put one foot in front of the other and commit to the process. For Eryn, all it took for her was to walk through the studio doors of Orangetheory (OT).

Like so many others before, Eryn worked out by herself at a gym. Her normal routine consisted of 50 minutes of cardio and 10 minutes of weights on the machines. She felt lost with no direction and never knew what to do. Not seeing the results she wanted, she took a new approach.

I felt empowered and so excited to come back.”

Eryn heard about OT and couldn’t wait to try it. In the fall of 2017, she took a tour at the OT studio in West Linn. The coaches and front counter staff made her feel welcomed. She then joined the Orangetheory nation.

However, her time there didn’t last long. She cancelled her membership and moved to Vernonia in February. The closest studio she could go to was Orenco Station. Her hiatus from OT was short lived.

A few months later, she rejoined at Orenco Station. She knew the value of it and how Orangetheory gave her the results she wanted. She said, “I was nervous to join a new studio but after one class I knew that the hour drive was worth it no matter how crazy my family thought I was for driving so far. I have taken classes at a number of studios but the environment at Orenco Station is something special. The staff is one of a kind…they truly care about all members and are there for you no matter what.”

She recalls taking her first class during Hell Week, which is not for the faint of heart. Although she felt terrified at first, the fear eventually went away and after class she never felt better. “I felt empowered and so excited to come back,” she said.

Two and a half years later, Orangetheory has not only helped her lose fat and gain muscle, but also accomplish things she never thought possible. Eryn said, “In 2019 I was able to run eight half marathons and finished my very first full marathon. OTF is like no other. I always feel supported and motivated by my peers.”

The things, which motivate her and keep her coming back are the constant results. Her body continues to evolve and transform. She recently gained a new personal record (PR) on the weight room floor. She lifted weights that she never thought she could lift and last month she ran her fastest mile ever.

“OTF has not only transformed my body, but also has helped transform my mind. I have never been more confident in my abilities in the gym, but also in my personal life I have the strength to make positive changes. I know that with some hard work and consistency I can do anything. I mean, I ran 26.2 miles last year – there is nothing that I can’t do.”

She enjoys turning on the treadmill and pushing herself on endurance days. Strength days prove difficult for her, but she never misses a strength day because she knows she needs to work on this the most. “I have goals to gain more muscle and the amazing coaches have helped me get closer to this goal each week. Another benefit of OTF is the workouts, which are never the same; so even after so many classes, I never get bored. They always keep us on our toes,” said Eryn.

Her friends and family ask what it is about Orangetheory that keeps her coming back? One word– community. Last year was hard for her. She struggled with mental health issues causing a brief disappearance, but she never felt alone. Her OT family reached out to her to make sure she was okay.

This past Thanksgiving, her crazy Orangtheory Run Squad talked her into doing a 90-minute class and following it up by crushing a 5K race together. Eryn said, “Holidays are meant to be spent with family and I am so grateful I was surrounded by my OTF family this Thanksgiving. That has to be the thing that I love most – the family that I have gained.”

They supported her every step of the way. When she felt ready to come back, she felt as if she didn’t miss a day. She has created lifelong friends at Orenco Station and feels grateful. During the Dri-Tri last year, Persia asked her, “Remember where you were five years ago? Look at where you are now!” This brought her to tears when she came so close to slowing down during the workout. Persia gave her the motivation she needed to keep going.

OT has helped her stay accountable and has given her the strength to improve many things in her life. Eryn feels much stronger mentally and physically.

Keep Burning Eryn!

Keeping Him Accountable

Fitness for people is either on or off for periods of time. Rahul would have times where he was on point with eating healthy and working our regularly. Then, there would be points where he binge ate and wouldn’t work out at all. His weight would fluctuate and he wanted to put an end to it.

Luckily for Rahul, he was training for a triathlon on his own. After he completed his triathlon, he joined Orangetheory (OT) at Orenco Station in September of 2018 and has consistently attended three to four classes on a weekly basis. His goals prior to OT were to be mindful of his day, eat healthy and lose weight.

“I like endurance training because it makes me come out of my comfort zone.”

The thing that motivates Rahul to come to class often is the accountability. “I take the morning classes usually and that keeps a check on my eating habits through out the day. If I cannot make it to the morning class, I sign up for the evening class and watch my eating again so that I can have a good workout in the evening,” he said. Orangetheory has helped him avoid the on-and-off again cycles he experienced in the past. He now has a goal of lowering his body mass index (BMI), which is appropriate for him.

When Rahul first started his fitness routine at Orenco, running at a speed of 10 miles per hour for 30 seconds proved difficult for him. He has now reached a milestone and can run at 12 miles per hour for 45 seconds and a for minute on a good day. The type of class that he likes the most is an endurance class. Rahul said, “I like endurance training because it makes me come out of my comfort zone.”

He likes taking group fitness classes because of the motivation behind it especially the partner workouts pushing him to work harder. The record tracker is another motivator for him too because it’s a way for him to focus on setting new personal records (PRs).

One of the things he likes about classes are the coaches. Rahul likes it especially when they call out your name and knowing they are watching you. “It makes we work even harder,” he said. The staff is great too; they always accommodate him when he’s on the waitlist.

All in all, he loves the coaches, camaraderie and the accountability Orangetheory gives. Keep Burning Rahul!

Getting Back On Track

Jon Deleonardo

Humans are creatures of habit and it takes nearly 21 days to form a habit. Jon who won the 2019 Transformation Challenge developed a routine and habit leading to his success in and out of the studio. Prior to joining Orangetheory (OT), he and his wife took group training interval classes and stopped going for a while. Once the studio opened at Orenco Station, they joined to get back on track with group interval training.

“I love the intensity and it’s a great reset to any stress going on in my life.”

Jon recalls his first class at the studio as tough but his body felt good from the workout. He felt his body waking up again to an intense heart rate work out, working recovery and strength training. “I was never a runner before joining OTF but I found the cardio work on the tread to closely mirror some of the interval training and hill repeats that we used to do on the bike,” said Jon.

Before taking classes at OT, Jon gained some weight and wanted to lose some of it. He also wanted to get back into his previous fitness form. The results, convenient class times, absolute dedication, passion, support from the coaches and staff motivates him to come often. Jon said, “I love the intensity and it’s a great reset to any stress going on in my life.”

Jon Deleonardo_2

Since joining OT, he hit a major milestone winning the 2019 Transformation Challenge for the men getting down to 169 pounds and losing 5.5 percent body fat in the eight weeks. He went to classes about five days per week and sometimes more. Jon knew to listen to his body and forced himself to hold back and have a “green day” if he felt sore.

“I’ve never changed my diet and lifestyle habits to match how much time I put into fitness activities and gym routine. I would generally eat and drink whatever I wanted thinking that the workout calories I burned allowed me to do so. I think that the real secret is ‘you can’t outrun your bad diet.’ I was also one of the folks that swore off recreational beer and alcohol for the challenge. The results have been so good. I’m happy to report still being booze free and committed to healthy eating.”

A key part to Jon’s success has come from his wife’s unwavering support to not only  meet his goals, but more importantly to reach their goals together. Jon said, “Lifestyle habit and diet changes, which are essential to OTF results cannot occur in a vacuum…Forming our team and supporting each other has had some great effects to reinforce training schedules, diets, and habits that we can both stick to.”

He also ran his first half marathon in April having never ran in any event or distance on the road before in life. He was happy to beat his goal of under 2 hours and finished in 1 hour and 48 minutes. Jon has goals of continuing with the habits that have led him to successful results, attending classes regularly, and to run one half marathon a month during the summer and possibly run Hood to Coast.

Jon likes how the Orenco Station community has a positive vibe and how everyone supports one another. These are some of the building blocks, which make the studio a great place for everyone – thank you for being part of it.

Keep Burning Jon!

Living a Long and Healthy Life

Joe and Valeria_1

When Joe moved to Oregon, Joe wanted to find a gym or studio to work out at. Joe stumbled upon Orangetheory Fitness (OTF) while it was under construction. He met Persia at the time and thought of OTF as an interesting concept and wanted to give it a try.

Joe remembers feeling nervous for his first class. After a few 5 a.m. classes, he was hooked. Valeria felt a little intimidated about her first class and didn’t join right away like Joe, but eventually gave OTF a shot a few months later and joined. Both enjoyed and felt great after their first workouts.

“I dropped to 180 pounds and reached 14 percent body fat. I did it through constantly coming to OTF and eating healthy” — Joe.

The couple attends class frequently and burns to stay in mental and physical shape. Joe hit the ground running by participating in the Weight Loss Challenge, Peak Weak and Dri-Tri. “I am entering my 40s and I want to stay healthy by using proper diet and getting plenty of exercise. I want to ensure I live a long life,” said Joe.

Joe and Valeria_2

Both had specific goals for themselves when they joined OTF. Valeria had the goals of consistently feeling strong and maintaining her stress levels. Joe, on the other hand, wanted to lose fat and drop his weight down to 190 pounds.

Since joining the OTF family, both have reached milestones for themselves. Valeria couldn’t run for long periods at a time when she began. She stated, “OTF had been the best thing for me. I was never able to run for more than a minute and can now easily run during classes. I feel much stronger than ever after joining OTF.”

Joe came in second in last year’s Weight Loss Challenge and competed in two Dri-Tris. “I dropped to 180 pounds and reached 14 percent body fat. I did it through constantly coming to OTF and eating healthy,” said Joe.

Although they’ve both reached their goals, their new goals don’t differ much from their original goals. Joe wants to maintain between 10 – 14 percent body fat and gain more strength. Valeria wants to continue to build muscle mass. She said, “I have two beautiful babies and do not seek body perfection. My goal is to feel good about my body just the way it is.”

“I want to thank everyone at OTF for doing what you do. You inspire me and motivate me. Thank you for being you”– Valeria.

Both love attending classes at the studio because of the coaches and the challenges each class presents. Valeria loves the front desk staff and all the coaches especially AJ, Shay and Persia because of their inspiration and dedication. She loves the flexibility of the class schedule and how she feels after completing a workout.

Joe loves the fact that he can utilize OTF anywhere in the nation and around the world. He has visited locations in Seattle, Redmond, Lexington and other locations, which works well with his job travels.

The two of them love everything about OTF from the events to the 90-minute class. Every time they take class at the studio, both of them always feel welcomed by the friendly community because of its positive energy and support. “I want to thank everyone at OTF for doing what you do. You inspire me and motivate me. Thank you for being you,” said Valeria. Thanks for being part of our community!

Keep Burning Joe and Valeria.

From Barely Walking To Crushing It

G and Janki_2G and Janki_3

The couple that sweats together stays together. It’s difficult to miss Gaurang (aka “G”) wearing his headband holding back his wild hair with his wife Janki and her infectious smile. They’ve attended classes here at Orangetheory Fitness (OTF) Orenco Station since the beginning of December 2016 and have only missed one class each between the two – amazing!

“It was hard, and we could barely walk the first day. But at the same time, it was so engaging and different, we enjoyed it so much we knew we had found something special” — Janki.

Prior to joining OTF, they neglected their fitness but wanted to make a positive change in their lives. Both were looking for a workout that they could enjoy and sustain together. One day, the duo walked around Orenco Station and saw a sign for OTF. Their curiosity led them to meet the owner, Chad, and Persia discovering the benefits OTF workouts offer. The two joined right then and there beginning their fitness journey.

IMG_0160G and Janki_1

The two recall their first workout at OTF as “intense” and it made them realize their “unfit” condition. Janki stated, “It was hard, and we could barely walk the first day. But at the same time, it was so engaging and different, we enjoyed it so much we knew we had found something special.”

They, initially, had differing fitness goals for themselves but wanted to improve on their overall health. In the past, G ran for distance and had the aspiration of building lean muscle, regaining momentum for running and getting back into shape. Janki, on the other hand, had the initial goal of completing the recommended three weekly workouts.

“My secret is to keep challenging and competing with myself everyday. Different variety of workouts and technical inputs from coaches kept things interesting and that made a huge difference compared to a monotonous gym workout” — G.

Now that they’ve attended classes here for about a year they have different goals. G wants to challenge himself by running longer distances in a shorter time period while completing all the floor reps as a short-term goal. He also wants to burn fat while continuing to build lean muscle, which helps his long distance running, his long-term goal. Janki wants to continuously stay in base pace between push pace on endurance days, lift heavier weights, complete more reps, row with better form, and tone select muscle groups.

G and Janki_4

The two have accomplished some milestones since joining OTF. G has lost 25 pounds in eight months and never fathomed waking up at 5 a.m. to attend the 6 a.m. workouts full of energy and focus. At first, he found the routine difficult; however, the coaches, staff and other OTF members kept him going and staying motivated to reach his goals. G said, “My secret is to keep challenging and competing with myself everyday. Different variety of workouts and technical inputs from coaches kept things interesting and that made a huge difference compared to a monotonous gym workout.”

Janki initially started as a power walker because she didn’t like running and thought she couldn’t run at the time. Now she’s a jogger/runner – a milestone she never thought of achieving. She also completed the Dri-Tri in September, which she thought she couldn’t accomplish. Throughout her fitness journey, Janki has had many nagging injuries. She has had moments when she wanted to “take it easy” and give up. However, she persevered knowing that the workouts made her stronger and changed what her body could do. At the end of the day, she always felt good post workout and the thought of getting stronger kept her going.

“All this strength and determination would have been impossible had it not been for the amazing coaches at OTF Orenco pushing me to lift more, run faster, row faster and longer! It was constant support and reaffirmation from all the coaches at OTF, which kept me going. And of course, the overall amazing format of workouts that OTF offers has led me to grow immensely strong from where I was a year ago” — Janki.

Every time they experience a different workout at another studio, they always circled back to how extraordinary the coaches and staff are compared to the other locations they have visited. Both credit the staff and coaches for their constant involvement and hard work, which brings out the best in them every day describing OTF as “life changing.”

When asked what they loved about the OTF community, they described it as a positive support system built into their lives, which is simply special. In addition, the OTF community at Orenco Station gives them an amazing feeling, which adds motivation to the workout. They’ll continue to succeed with the help of each other and the rest of the OTF Orenco Station family.

Keep Burning G and Janki!

A Game Changer

The early bird gets the worm. Lindsay has consistently attended early morning classes at Orangetheory Fitness (OTF) Orenco Station since she started her membership in May. She mainly attends the early morning classes that some of us would rather skip and sleep in. Her commitment to attending classes has helped her reach her fitness goals.

Before joining the OTF family, she carried extra weight and needed help to achieve a healthier life. She wanted to build strength and endurance to enjoy the outdoor activities she loved with less pain.

“I powered through it and came right back feeling much better. I certainly felt accomplished!”

Luckily her friend and co-worker, Todd who also attends OTF Orenco Station, invited her to try a class at the studio. This is exactly what she needed – getting plugged into a fitness community of like-minded people. “It’s been such a game changer for me!” and she describes OTF in one word as innovative.

Lindsay recalls her first workout going all out to the point of getting sick in the restroom half way through the class. However, she had a determination of completing the class, which she did. She said, “I powered through it and came right back feeling much better. I certainly felt accomplished!”

Since her start, she has lost 25 pounds alone by going to classes and a total of 40 pounds since she started her fitness journey. Lindsay now has goals of toning up, improving on her performance and pushing herself to do more.

Lindsay before and after

The coaches at the studio and an independent health coach have attributed to Lindsay’s success and reaching her milestone. She recently decided to coach others as an independent health coach encouraging and supporting others towards reaching their fitness goals – paying it forward.

“I’m so thankful for OTF and what it’s done to help transform my health.”

Everyone has their favorite type of class but she likes them all. She said, “All of them are great, honestly. Any day at OTF is a good one.” The things she likes most about OTF Orenco Station are the coaches and the staff because of their energy, positivity, encouragement, and how they lead by example. She’s amazed by how everyone knows her name. “They’re great at connecting on a personal level and are the reason why I’ll be a lifer at OTF,” said Lindsay.

Lindsay loves the accountability the studio provides because the classes, which she schedules keeps her on track by showing up to class. In addition, the community of the OTF family keeps her connected, which always has her coming back. “I’m so thankful for OTF and what it’s done to help transform my health.”

Keep Burning Lindsay!
